Gregory University Uturu Holds First Radiography Induction

Gregory University, Uturu has held its first Radiography Induction and Oath-Taking Ceremony, celebrating the pioneer graduands of the Department of Radiography.

The historic event which took place at Izima Council Chambers of Gregory University on Wednesday, 13th August 2025 brought together professionals and distinguished personalities in the field of Radiography.

Administering the oath, the Registrar of the Medical Rehabilitation Radiography Board of Nigeria (RRBN), Professor Mark Chukwudi Okeji, who was represented by Dr. Macauly Chukwudi Ejimofor, commended the institution for being one of the four private universities in Nigeria offering Radiography with full NUC accreditation.

He further encouraged the inductees, as pioneer graduands, to carry the double honour and responsibility of upholding the standards of the profession and keep the flag flying.

In her opening address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Cele Njoku, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Regina Ogali, urged the inductees to go beyond mere practice and strive to become professionals who positively influence the lives of their patients, and others in the society.

Delivering the induction lecture titled “Shaping the Future of Radiography and Shining with Purpose”, the Guest Speaker, Elder Ini Ekanem, emphasized that Radiography practice is broad and multifaceted. He encouraged the inductees to become technical stewards and policy advocates in order to evolve into global professionals.

Elder Ekanem further urged the inductees to jealously guard their profession, develop the drive to advance their skills, and become role models for others.

In his valedictory speech, the best graduand, Ogiribo O. Glory, remarked, “It wasn’t easy at first, but I fought battles.” He promised never to bring shame to his parents or the university. He expressed deep gratitude to God for bringing them this far and appreciated the lecturers for the guidance throughout their academic journey.

Gregory University Celebrates Visionary Leader And Pioneer BOT Chairman in Style

The entire community of Gregory University Uturu (GUU) was filled with excitement and honour as the institution played host to the former President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and pioneer Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of GUU, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa.
In a historic visit to the university on 22nd August 2025, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, accompanied by his wife, commended the institution for its aggressive and commendable growth evident in the establishment and successful running of programme such as Law, Pharmacy, Medicine and Surgery, Engineering, among others.
Mazi Sam also congratulated the university for its unique approach to entrepreneurial studies, emphasizing that scholars graduate not just as certificate holders, but as potential employers of labour thanks to the entrepreneurial skills they acquire during their studies.
He thanked the university for the warm reception and reaffirmed his commitment to continually support initiatives that promote learning, research, and innovation. He further advised scholars to have a purpose, make a plan, work hard, and persevere in order to reach the apex of their careers and life goals.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Cele Njoku, in her address, expressed profound gratitude to Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa for his unwavering support towards the academic and infrastructural development of the institution and the nation at large. She described him as a visionary leader and a true friend of education.
Adding glamour to the occasion, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa and his entourage were first guided to the College of Pharmacy for a tour of its facilities and ongoing infrastructural projects. They expressed delight in the achievements of the founder, Prof. Greg Ibe, especially in leadership, philanthropy, and academic excellence.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts by both the university management and the pharmacy scholars to the renowned pharmacist, in appreciation of his enduring legacy and ongoing support.

Gregory University Makes Waves at the Nigerian Private University Games (NPUGA) 2025

Away from the classroom, it’s a moment of excitement and sportsmanship as Gregory University Uturu (GUU), joins other private universities from across the nation for the 8th Nigerian Private University Games Association (NPUGA) 2025 competition, at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
Gregory University continues to make a strong impression at the games, scoring two record-breaking goals within the first five minutes of their football match against Venite University, who failed to score.
In basketball, Team Gregory advanced to the semifinals after an impressive victory over Achievers University, winning with a score of 23 to 14.
The university also celebrated success in table tennis. In the male’s singles category, George Ike, a 300-level Physiotherapy student and Director of Socials in the GUU Student Union Government (SUG), secured a win for Gregory University against David from Adeleke University.
George later competed in the quarterfinals on Friday, August 14th, facing the No. 1 player from last year’s NPUGA tournament, representing Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU). Gregory University’s journey in the table tennis competition ended at this stage.
Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), is actively participating in volleyball, football (male and female), basketball, and tennis. The team is excited to be part of this event, which offers them the opportunity to exchange ideas and share in the spirit of sportsmanship with representatives from 24 participating universities.
Earlier, in his welcome address at the opening ceremony, the NPUGA President, Dr. Diyaolu Babajide, expressed appreciation to the participating schools and the entire NPUGA team for their efforts in making this year’s games a success. He emphasized that NPUGA is more than just a sporting event; it is a movement that fosters unity across faiths and cultures.
Dr. Babajide encouraged everyone to make excellence a habit in all areas, stressing that if NPUGA is to thrive, it must be adequately supported. He noted that starving the process of necessary resources may hinder the level of excellence the games aim to achieve.
On day seven of NPUGA 2025, the GUU male football team scored 4 goals in their football match against Adeleke University. The GUU football and basketball teams remain focused on the trophy, as they are set to deliver outstanding performances.

Gregory University Uturu Holds First Physiotherapy Induction

Gregory University Uturu, has held its first physiotherapy induction and oath-taking ceremony, celebrating the pioneer graduates of Physiotherapy department.
The event took place at the Izima Council Chambers of Gregory University Uturu on Tuesday, 29th July 2025.
Administering the oath, the Registrar/CEO of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), Professor Ahmed Rufai, congratulated the inductees and applauded the university for its vision and commitment to bridging the knowledge and skills gap in the field of physiotherapy. He commended the institution for establishing and fully equipping the department, which will continue to produce outstanding physiotherapists for the nation and beyond.
He further encouraged the inductees to embrace a broader perspective focusing on problem-solving, leadership, health financing, and, most importantly, specialization within the profession.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Cele Njoku represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Regina Ogali urged the inductees to go beyond mere practice and strive to become professionals who positively influence the lives of their patients. She emphasized that their work should serve as a testament to their training and impact on the wider society.
She also expressed appreciation to MRTBN for approving and certifying the inductees, stating that the endorsement confirms the graduates have been found fit and worthy, having undergone rigorous professional training during their undergraduate Programme here at Gregory University.
Delivering the induction lecture, titled “Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) and Beyond: Enhancing Clinical Autonomy in Physiotherapy Practice.” Associate Professor Chidiebele Ojukwu highlighted the importance of transitioning to the DPT programme in Nigeria as a strategic reform that could transform healthcare delivery across the country. She explained that the programme would open doors to clinical excellence, autonomy, and leadership.
A’Prof. Ojukwu who encouraged the inductees to aspire to the highest ranks in the profession, also outlined additional benefits of the DPT, to include; alignment with global standards, improved access to both primary and specialized care, and the strengthening of multidisciplinary healthcare teams among others.
The pioneer inductees expressed excitement and appreciation to the university, their lecturers and their parents/ guardians for their support and guidance throughout their years of study.

College of Engineering, Gregory University Uturu Visits SETRACO Quarry Site, Ugwuele Uturu

As part of its academic and field exposure initiatives and in line with the implementation of COREN/Outcome-Based Education (OBE) the College of Engineering, Gregory University Uturu, embarked on an industrial tour to the SETRACO Quarry Site, located in Ugwuele Uturu, Abia State, on July 18.
The visit was aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical classroom knowledge and practical field applications in engineering.
During the visit, key officials from SETRACO, including the Human Resource Officer, Mr. Isaac Ajibade, enlightened the scholars on the critical roles engineers play in quarry management and material production. The session provided valuable insight into the multidisciplinary engineering skills required in such industrial environments.
The scholars were taken on a comprehensive tour of the quarry’s key operational segments, including: Pit/Blasting Area- Where rock fragmentation operations are demonstrated, Production/Crushing Plant – A section where raw rocks are processed into various aggregate sizes, Screening Unit – For sorting and grading of crushed materials, Workshop & Maintenance Section– Showcases equipment servicing and repair processes, and Weighing/Scaling Section – Where outgoing stone materials are weighed and documented.
The students had a great learning experience, while the accompanying staff including  the College Secretary, Ms. Ijeoma Okoji, and the Civil Engineering Technologist, Mr. Chukwuma Ume expressed their enthusiasm about the hands-on experience and reaffirmed the entire College’s commitment to participating in more industrial tours to complement classroom learning with practical exposure.

DVC Administration, Gregory University Uturu, Prof. Uwaoma Charges Scholars on Academic Excellence

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of Gregory University, Uturu, Prof. Uwaoma Uche, has urged scholars to be proactive and take every aspect of their educational journey seriously as this will enhance their academic excellence.
Prof. Uwaoma made this call during the Department of Mass Communication’s class presentation for the course titled “Seminar in Communication and Development,” involving final-year scholars.
According to Prof. Uwaoma, who also serves as the course facilitator, the Seminar in Communication and Development is a practical course that encourages in-depth research into socio-economic development goals and explores ways to achieve societal growth through strategic communication and related tools.
He expressed appreciation to the school management and for providing a conducive platform for learning and for supporting hands-on, practical education. He also commended the scholars for their active participation and the effort put into conducting thorough research, which was clearly reflected in the quality of their presentations.
During the session, the 400-level Mass Communication scholars, under the coordination of Amaka Onuoha, presented on various pressing development topics. These included electricity accessibility, road infrastructure, banking systems, water supply, and security, among others. The scholars proposed actionable strategies for improving living conditions by enhancing these critical areas across communities in Nigeria.

College of Engineering, Gregory University Uturu Hosts Maiden International Conference

It was an exciting moment as the College of Engineering, Gregory University Uturu (GUU) held its 1st International Conference aimed at fostering transformative advancements in engineering.
The conference which had as its theme “Innovative Engineering Solutions for Sustainable Global Development,” brought together members of the academic community including various college deans, lecturers, and scholars at Izima Chambers of Gregory University Uturu.
In their various presentations, each speaker thoroughly examined the conference theme, addressing real-life problems and proposing innovative solutions. Discussions explored smart infrastructure for technological and agricultural development, among other forward-thinking topics.
Among the presenters were several students who demonstrated practical innovations, including a performance analysis of solar-powered battery systems for DC fans, and a low-cost solar-powered phone charging system designed to address energy poverty in off-grid areas and the high cost of non-renewable energy sources such as petrol and diesel.
In his keynote address, the Dean of the College of Engineering, GUU, Prof Joseph Udonne urged all college members, including students, to begin formulating innovative solutions rather than relying solely on existing knowledge, as the world continues to evolve. He further encouraged scholars to actively engage in brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas for the benefit of the school, and society at large.
Prof. Udonne expressed appreciation for everyone’s efforts and participation, noting that more conferences of this nature would be held in the future, as they are essential for growth within the engineering sector and beyond.

Gregory University Uturu (GUU) Law Scholars Association (LAWSA) hosted a debate to discuss laws concerning social media usage.

The debate featured two formidable chambers: Justice Mary Odili Chambers, advocating for stricter social media laws in the interest of order, and Justice Oputa Chambers, arguing that such laws would pose a threat to freedom of expression. The event drew a remarkable audience, comprising lecturers and scholars, creating an atmosphere of intellectual engagement and legal reasoning.

The debate began with a compelling presentation by Favour Oyinmiébi Elemson from Justice Mary Odili Chambers, supported by Uchegbu Joshua Chukwuemeka. Their argument was meticulously structured, incorporating real-life examples, practical experiments, statistical analysis, and legal precedents to substantiate their stance on the necessity of stricter social media regulations.

In response, Mary Chiamaka Ezeugwu and Jethro Gumi of Justice Oputa Chambers mounted a strong counterargument. Their presentation emphasized the fundamental right to freedom of expression and the potential risks of governmental overreach, making a case against excessive restrictions on social media.

The speakers engaged in powerful rebuttals and thought-provoking discourse, allowing participants to share their perspectives and contribute diverse legal insights to the discussion. The former GUU LAWSA Vice President, Nmesoma, also contributed in support of stricter regulations on social media, using Twitter as a case study.

Following an intense deliberation, the honourable judges, Barrister Raymond Uche and Mr. Victor Okoro, emphasized the significance of the debate in shaping legal thought and advocacy. After careful evaluation of the argument structure, legal backing, and delivery, the judges ruled in favour of Justice Mary Odili Chambers, recognizing their well-founded arguments and compelling advocacy for order in social media regulation.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to Praise Chimbundu Chijioke from Justice Mary Odili Chambers and Chidubem Roy Anyanwu from Justice Oputa Chambers, in recognition of their exceptional performances.

The debate was not just a competition but a testament to the legal acumen and advocacy skills of Gregory University Law Scholars, reinforcing the importance of legal discourse in shaping policies that impact society.

Experts Discuss AI’s Impact on Gig Economy at Gregory University College of Social and Management Sciences Monthly Seminar

As Nigeria’s gig economy is on the edge of uprising, one pressing question arises: will artificial intelligence serve as a catalyst for unprecedented growth or usher in widespread job displacement?
This critical issue was an important point of discussion on July 2, 2025, during the July edition of the Monthly Seminar Series organized by the College of Social and Management Sciences, Gregory University Uturu. The Department of Business Administration led this month’s edition.
The seminar was attended by some members of the university management, scholars, and lecturers from various colleges.
In her opening remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Cele Njoku represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Uwaoma Uche commended the College for its initiative and for aligning with global academic trends, which  will, in turn, enhance learning outcomes.
The keynote presentation was delivered by research expert Nmeregini A. Emenike. His presentation, titled “Artificial Intelligence and Industry Performance in a Gig Economy: The Nigerian Conundrum,” highlighted the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving economic landscape.
The seminar also provided a platform for meaningful engagement between the presenter and attendees, creating room for better understanding of the subject matter.
As the Nigerian economy continues to evolve, He argued, that it is essential to consider the impact of AI on industry performance. By exploring the potential benefits and challenges of AI. He’s adds that we can work towards creating a future where technology enhances human capabilities, rather than replacing them.
Addressing the gathering earlier, the Dean of the College, A/Prof. Samson Nzeribe, encouraged all members of the College of Social and Management Sciences to be proactive and to engage in meaningful departmental sessions that will lead to more impactful outcomes for the benefit of all.

Gregory University College of Law Holds Moot Court Trial

As part of the activities marking the Gregory University College of Law Week, held from 23rd June to 29th June, 2025, the College hosted a Moot Court trial aimed at enhancing practical learning by helping students apply legal theories to real-life scenarios.

The fictional court proceedings featured two parties, with a total of ten counsels; five representing the Prosecution and five representing the Defense, in a mock murder trial.

During the event, the Dean of the College, A’Prof Angela Ngozi Chioke encouraged the scholars to take the Moot Court trial seriously, emphasizing that it is, first and foremost, an academic exercise meant to build competence and confidence. She noted that the experience would significantly contribute to their legal knowledge and better prepare them for effective practice beyond the university walls.

She also urged the students to be diligent and to seize every opportunity to learn, stating that consistent effort and dedication would enable the College to attain its rightful place of pride both nationally and globally.

Earlier, A’Prof Chioke presented certificates to a group of scholars who had represented the university at the Wahab Egbewole National Disability Rights Moot Competition held at the University of Ilorin.

Gregory University Uturu College of Law were among the top five universities at the end of the competition, highlighting the institution’s growing reputation in legal education.
