College of Engineering, Gregory University Uturu Visits SETRACO Quarry Site, Ugwuele Uturu

As part of its academic and field exposure initiatives and in line with the implementation of COREN/Outcome-Based Education (OBE) the College of Engineering, Gregory University Uturu, embarked on an industrial tour to the SETRACO Quarry Site, located in Ugwuele Uturu, Abia State, on July 18.
The visit was aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical classroom knowledge and practical field applications in engineering.
During the visit, key officials from SETRACO, including the Human Resource Officer, Mr. Isaac Ajibade, enlightened the scholars on the critical roles engineers play in quarry management and material production. The session provided valuable insight into the multidisciplinary engineering skills required in such industrial environments.
The scholars were taken on a comprehensive tour of the quarry’s key operational segments, including: Pit/Blasting Area- Where rock fragmentation operations are demonstrated, Production/Crushing Plant – A section where raw rocks are processed into various aggregate sizes, Screening Unit – For sorting and grading of crushed materials, Workshop & Maintenance Section– Showcases equipment servicing and repair processes, and Weighing/Scaling Section – Where outgoing stone materials are weighed and documented.
The students had a great learning experience, while the accompanying staff including  the College Secretary, Ms. Ijeoma Okoji, and the Civil Engineering Technologist, Mr. Chukwuma Ume expressed their enthusiasm about the hands-on experience and reaffirmed the entire College’s commitment to participating in more industrial tours to complement classroom learning with practical exposure.
