It was an exciting moment as the College of Engineering, Gregory University Uturu (GUU) held its 1st International Conference aimed at fostering transformative advancements in engineering.
The conference which had as its theme “Innovative Engineering Solutions for Sustainable Global Development,” brought together members of the academic community including various college deans, lecturers, and scholars at Izima Chambers of Gregory University Uturu.
In their various presentations, each speaker thoroughly examined the conference theme, addressing real-life problems and proposing innovative solutions. Discussions explored smart infrastructure for technological and agricultural development, among other forward-thinking topics.
Among the presenters were several students who demonstrated practical innovations, including a performance analysis of solar-powered battery systems for DC fans, and a low-cost solar-powered phone charging system designed to address energy poverty in off-grid areas and the high cost of non-renewable energy sources such as petrol and diesel.
In his keynote address, the Dean of the College of Engineering, GUU, Prof Joseph Udonne urged all college members, including students, to begin formulating innovative solutions rather than relying solely on existing knowledge, as the world continues to evolve. He further encouraged scholars to actively engage in brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas for the benefit of the school, and society at large.
Prof. Udonne expressed appreciation for everyone’s efforts and participation, noting that more conferences of this nature would be held in the future, as they are essential for growth within the engineering sector and beyond.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Cele Njoku, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Uwaoma Uche, commended the College for its hard work and initiative in hosting the inaugural edition of an international conference on campus. Prof. Cele emphasized the need for more research and innovation aimed at the development of machines and technologies capable of solving both local and global problems.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Regina Ogali; the Bursar of the institution, Dr. Chijioke Nwaimo; and the University Librarian, Elder Prince Ikpo Okoroafor, all of whom delivered goodwill messages.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates to all attendees and an Award of Excellence to Engr Chief Obinna Asi
