Gregory University Uturu (GUU) is proud to announce that, within the span of one month, we have inducted over 100 individuals in the fields of Medical and Health Sciences, who are worthy in both character and skills through the successful hosting of Medical Doctors’ and Nurses’ induction ceremonies.

During the Nursing Induction, The Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Ndagi Alhassan, represented by Mrs. Eleanor Chinwe Nwaka, administered the Oath to the inductees. In his speech, the Registrar commended the university for its commitment to excellence and applauded the dedication of its lecturers. He encouraged the new nurses to seize available opportunities and be worthy ambassadors of the nursing profession.

During the ceremony, the Founder/Proprietor, Prof. Gregory Ibe, and the Chancellor, Mr. Gregory Okechukwu Ibe (Jnr), expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the entire Gregory University community and the external public and congratulated the pioneer graduate nurses for their resilience, hard work, and  determination.

Prof. Ibe, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Uwaoma Uche, urged the newly inducted nurses and midwives to uphold best practices in their profession, and take into cognizance the line of the university’s anthem that states: “In every quest, we still remain the best.”

In her address, the Head of the Nursing Department, A’Prof. Chinyere Nwufo, acknowledged the efforts of college members and university management. She also appealed to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria to increase GUU’s admission quota from 50 to 150, emphasizing the university’s capacity and capability to train a larger number of nurses.

Agaptus Nichole, the Best Graduating Nurse and multiple award recipient, delivered the valedictory speech on behalf of her fellow inductees. She expressed gratitude to all who contributed to their success, stating: “We are not just nurses. We are healers, advocates, and change-makers. We are destined to leave a footprint wherever we go.”

Gregory University Uturu continues to set the pace in the medical profession, consistently raising the bar; a tradition clearly reflected in the two successful induction ceremonies held in the month of June.

It was a proud moment for Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), as its third Medical Induction Ceremony held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, officially inducting 83 new medical doctors into the profession.

Administering the Hippocratic Oath to the inductees, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. Fatima Kyari represented by Dr. Tijani A. Mandaka commended the university’s management for maintaining the standards required to train skilled doctors. She encouraged the new doctors to approach their profession with integrity, empathy, and a deep sense of responsibility.

Speaking at the ceremony, the university’s Chancellor, Okechukwu Gregory Ibe (Jnr), congratulated the inductees and urged them to pursue continuous learning and always strive for excellence, noting that greatness lies ahead for them.

In her address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Cele Njoku, emphasized the need for the inductees to become excellent healthcare professionals who are not only knowledgeable but also empathetic. She encouraged them to embrace the responsibility of advancing healthcare with humanity and dedication. Furthermore, she urged them to uphold high standards of professionalism and make meaningful contributions to their communities and society at large.

The Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor S.A.U. Offiah, reminded the inductees that the world needs the skills they have acquired from this prestigious institution. He highlighted the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and a commitment to lifelong learning in their journey ahead.

Earlier in the event, the Founder and Proprietor of Gregory University, Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, in an address presented on his behalf by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Uwaoma Uche, stated that the establishment of Gregory University Uturu was driven by his vision for massive human empowerment, particularly in the field of medicine.

He expressed his satisfaction at seeing this vision come to fruition, adding, “Together, let us continue to empower humanity through quality education and healthcare.”

Dr. Chidera Ugoh, the overall best graduating scholar of the Medicine and Surgery Class of 2023, expressed her excitement and heartfelt gratitude on behalf of her classmates. She thanked the management of GUU, her lecturers, mentors, her parents and guardians for their unwavering support.

The Department of Nursing Sciences, Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), has successfully completed the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) Nursing Examinations, qualifying them as Professional Nurses.

The department recorded a commendable pass rate of 84.09%, reflecting the high professional training standards upheld at our prestigious institution. This achievement is a testament to the dedication of the Head of Department, members of staff, and our wonderful scholars.

Congratulations to our exceptional 3rd batch of Nursing Scholars on their outstanding performance. We wish them continued success as Gregory University continues to soar to greater heights.

The management of Gregory University Uturu, led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Cele Njoku, paid a courtesy visit to the Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa. This visit aligns with the institution’s tradition of maintaining strong relationships with security agencies in the state.

The Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu (GUU), Prof. Cele Njoku, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to fostering positive and productive collaborations and partnerships with other institutions to support development and make meaningful academic contributions to society.

This commitment was reiterated on Wednesday 19th March, during a courtesy visit by members of Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), including; The DVC Academic, Prof. E. A. Akubugwo, Dean of Engineering Engr. Prof. E. E. Anyanwu, Deputy Director Academic Planning Dr. Obisike, HoD Civil Engineering, Engr. Prof. G. O. Osueke, HoD Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Engr. Dr. C. E. Uchegbu, HoD Mechanical Engineering, Engr. Dr. C. P. Nwadinobi, Engr. Umebali, and Engr. E.C. Amanamba

The visit was in connection with the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities, which began in 2021 and aimed to facilitate valuable collaborations in the engineering sector, among others.

Also in attendance to receive the delegation were the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Regina Ogali; Registrar, Vincent Maliki; Librarian, Prince Ikpo Okoraofor; and the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Udonne Joseph.

Prof. Cele Njoku assured that both institutions will continue to benefit from the MOU and the advantages it brings.

Gregory University Uturu (GUU) has received accolades for consistently meeting all the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) requirements, ensuring the smooth progression of the programme.

The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Area Manager, Aba, Nwigboji Nwafagu, while applauding GUU, stated that this commitment to excellence should be maintained and never let down. Mr. Nwafagu made this statement during a visit to the institution for the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) orientation exercise on 20th February, 2025.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Regina Ogali, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Cele Njoku, welcomed the Area Manager and his team, which included the Training Development Officer, Nse Brown; SIWES Accountant, Igbokwe Joseph; and SIWES Officer, Uchendu Prince. She mentioned that this orientation exercise is crucial for the scholars and serves as an addition to their IT preparations for improved success.

In her remarks, the Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Director, Dr. Chigoziri Akudo Osuji, extended a warm welcome to the ITF officials, lecturers, scholars, and all attendees. She urged the scholars to pay close attention to the lessons, emphasizing the significance of these lessons in preparing them for a successful industrial training experience.

In a traditional gesture of hospitality, Mr. Ibe Njoku, a Mass Communication Department lecturer, welcomed the ITF delegation with kola nut, explaining its deep cultural significance in Igbo land as a symbol of respect and unity.

Major highlights of the programme included a detailed reading and explanation of the Code of Conduct for students, SIWES documentation procedures, and financial documentation guidelines.

Scholars were also introduced to the five key stakeholders responsible for SIWES: the Federal Government, the Industrial Training Fund, the National Universities Commission (NUC), the institution, and the students.

They were reminded that industrial training is a critical phase of their education, preparing them for real-world challenges. Therefore, they should maintain good behaviour, dress appropriately, establish useful and cordial relationships, and be punctual at work at all times.

The event recorded strong attendance from scholars and university lecturers, including Dr. Chabalin Elem, who, during his closing remarks, reinforced the significance of the orientation for scholars preparing for their industrial training.
