Expert Engineers and Specialists Visit Gregory University Uturu, Inspect Various Engineering Machines and Equipments

Gregory University recently hosted a group of expert engineers and technology specialists from the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, aimed at harnessing greater potential from the engineering sector.

 

This initiative aligns with our commitment to continually enhance the entrepreneurial standards and skill acquisition among our scholars, which are core values of the institution.

The management team, led by the VC, Prof. Cele Njoku, warmly welcomed the engineers and expressed gratitude for their visit, which is expected to yield fruitful collaborations.

Prof. Cele, expressing her excitement about their presence, stated that the university is open to increased collaboration and urged the specialists to bring their A-game for the benefit of both the university and society at large.

 

The delegation included Engr. Sylvester Adikwanduaba, Director of Skill Acquisition, and Engr. Onyenobi Samuel, a mechanical major, from the Federal Polytechnic Owerri, Imo State. They were present to observe the activities of our engineering departments and to provide expert insights on how we can maximize our laboratories, workshops, and equipment for the benefit of our scholars, the university community, and the wider world.

Other members of the delegation included Charles Anoshirionye, a woodwork specialist, and Builder G.O.C Odionyenma, former Director of Industrial Maintenance, Federal Polytechnic Owerri.

 

In their assessment, they commended the founder and management team for their efforts in equipping the engineering college, and other entrepreneurial sector of the school with high-quality equipment and advanced machines that enhance effective skill acquisition.

The machines available in the various workshops include; The  Series Guillotine Shearing Machines, Metal Bending Machines, Folding Machines, Conventional Milling Machines, CNC Milling Machines, and Woodwork Machines, etcetera.

According to Engr. Sylvester, these machines are high-quality products capable of producing quality steel, long-span materials, heavy cast materials, among others.

He emphasized the need to swiftly transition from paperwork to operation and production, enabling scholars to gain a balanced knowledge for the benefit of the larger society.

Regarding woodwork, the specialist noted that the machines are well-structured for providing a valuable work experience.

It was a remarkable sight to behold as both delegates and university members toured the premium technological facilities on campus, including a standard printing press.

The laboratories also visited included the Power and Machine Laboratory, Mechatronics, Electronics and Communications, and Control and Instrumentation.

GUU Pioneer VC, Prof. Elu honored with Fellow Award By Nigerian Economic Society

The pioneer Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu (GUU) has been conferred with the prestigious award of Fellow by the Nigerian Economic Society. This highest honor is a testament to her outstanding contributions to the field of economics and her impressive academic achievements in many institutions across the globe.

Reacting to the award, the Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof Cele Njoku said, “We are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with Prof. Elu. Her dedication, expertise, and passion for excellence are qualities that have continued to distinguish her professional practice globally.”

Continuing, she said, ” Prof Elu’s achievement serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration to the GUU community, and we are honored to recognize her tireless efforts. The foundation of curriculum diversity which she laid in GUU has continued to propel and fuel our capacity and capability to remain globally competitive in the global world of work. She is truly a worthy ambassador of the GUU brand and we are proud to celebrate this distinguished fellowship award with her.”

The Nigeria Economic Society had conferred the fellowship award on Prof Elu because of her scholarship and community outreach in the profession which according to the body have variously impacted different strata of society globally.

Russian Delegate visit Gregory University Uturu

Russian Delegates Visit Gregory University Uturu, Train Staff and Students. 

The three-day training for Gregory University Uturu (GUU) staff and scholars on remote sensing data from space, led by Russian delegates from Friendship University Moscow, has successfully been concluded.

The training, which began on August 19, 2024, and ended on August 22, focused on processing remote sensing data from space and developing competencies in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning.

This program aimed to equip scholars and staff, primarily from the engineering, environmental science, and IT departments, with essential tools and information in these fields.

Presidential Amnesty Programme Officials Visits Gregory University Uturu

To validate the student scholarship programme and further strengthen the relationship between Gregory University Uturu and the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), the PAP officials paid a courtesy visit to GUU, today 19th August 2024.

Present to receive them were the Vice Chancellor, Prof. C. U Njoku; Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Uwaoma Kalu; and the Registrar, Mr. Maliki Vincent.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor C. U. Njoku warmly welcomed them, expressed gratitude for the visit, and assured that the university is a safe environment for students to complete their studies.

 

Representing the PAP were Tony Okon, Assistant Head of the Education Department, and Ebimobo-Ere Borme, Student Registration Officer.

Addressing the PAP students currently studying at GUU, Tony Okon outlined the dos and don’ts and provided guidelines governing them as Presidential Amnesty students.

Among other guidelines, he emphasized the importance of avoiding cultism, examination malpractice, and illicit gratification, and encouraged them to communicate with the school management if they encounter any challenges.

Gregory University, Uturu Announces the 2023/2024 Scholars Work Experience Programme (SWEP)


The Students’ Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Unit of Gregory University, Uturu is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2023/2024 Scholars Work Experience Programme (SWEP). This specialized five-week programme is designed to prepare scholars for the six-month compulsory Industrial Training (IT), equipping them with practical knowledge and skills in their respective fields.

The SWEP is scheduled to take place from Monday, September 9, 2024, to Friday, October 11, 2024. Scholars are expected to return to campus from Saturday 7 to Sunday 8 September 2024.


Programme Scope:
The SWEP is specifically organized for scholars in the following departments:

200/300 Level Scholars of the College of Agriculture

200/300 Level Scholars of the College of Engineering

200 Level Architecture Scholars (College of Environmental Sciences)

300 Level Scholars of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (Anatomy & Physiology)

200 Level Scholars of the College of Natural & Applied Sciences (BCM, CSC, MCB)

200/300 Level Scholars of Radiography and Radiation (Faculty of Health Sciences)

Payment Information: Each participating scholar is required to pay a sum of ₦60,000. This fee covers accommodation, laboratory consumables, and logistics. Additionally, scholars will be issued a SWEP manual at the approved price by the University Management.

The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State, Prof. Mrs C.U Njoku has pledged her commitment to foster growth and development within the institution during her tenure.


She made this statement during her 1st General Assembly with the University Community, which she described as a vital forum for meaningful interaction between the management, staff and students of the university.

Outlining her vision for the University, Prof. Mrs C.U Njoku stated that she shall run an open, decentralized and humane administration, where all members of the university community would participate actively. The administration, she emphasized will be transparent and accountable to all major stakeholders while collaborating with the various organs of the University to maintain and enhance existing harmonious working relationships.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted several key priorities of her administration, including academic development, staff and student welfare and revenue generation.

On academic development, she promised intensified efforts towards achieving full accreditation status for all programmes and the establishment of linkage arrangements with local and foreign universities for staff and student exchange programmes and exposure as well as the enhancement of campus infrastructures.

Addressing staff and student welfare, Prof. Njoku assured that existing backlogs of promotions and upgrading of staff shall be cleared and expressed her commitment to refocusing the Student Union Government (SUG) to engage in more meaningful activities for the achievement of academic and social goals.

Furthermore, she announced her intent to establish a peace and conflict resolution committee that will ensure justice, fairness and equity within the university.

A core focus of the Vice Chancellor’s address was the need to generate revenue internally for the university. She outlined several projects aimed at achieving this, including endowment funds, gifts, alumni contributions, the establishment of business enterprises and commercial ventures and a refocused entrepreneurship centre.

Prof. Njoku also hinted at the need for the establishment of an Office for University Development, a parent-management forum and an effective security system, stating that security is a collective responsibility of all.

Concluding her address, she highlighted critical areas for positive change of attitude and suitable values and principles for adoption while urging the University community to join her in lifting the University to an enviable height.

Following the address by the Vice-Chancellor, an interactive session ensued, during which members of the university community raised questions and offered suggestions for growth.

The assembly ended with a vote of thanks from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Uwaoma Kalu Uche, while members of the University extended their best wishes to the Vice-Chancellor and the new administration for a successful tenure.

Gregory University Holds 10th Inaugural Lecture, Announces New Appointments

Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State, today held its 10th Inaugural Lecture, which featured an enlightening presentation by Prof. Isaac Lasbrey Ihekwoaba, Professor of Theatre and Media Studies. The lecture, titled “Advertising Trajectory: Demystifying the Myth and Plugging Economic Waste,” drew a large audience of academics, students, and dignitaries.

 

The lecture explored the evolution of advertising and its impact on society.  Prof. Ihekwoaba dissected the misconceptions surrounding advertising and illuminated strategies to enhance its economic efficiency. He emphasized the importance of strategic advertising in reducing economic waste and fostering a more robust economic environment.  

 

A highlight of the event was the announcement of key new appointments within the University’s leadership. Prof. Celestina Njoku, the former Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, was appointed as the new Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Prof. Njoku, whose career is marked by academic excellence and administrative prowess, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.  Her vision for the University is expected to drive it towards greater achievements and innovations in the educational sector.

Additionally, Prof. Augustine Uwakwe, the erstwhile Vice-Chancellor was named the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.  

The new appointments were met with applause and congratulations from the University community, recognizing the wealth of experience and expertise that both parties bring to their respective new roles.

The event was indeed a significant milestone for the University, highlighting its commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community engagement.

Nursing Scholars Of Gregory University, Uturu Pass NMCN Examination with Flying Colors

We are excited to announce that our Nursing Scholars have successfully passed the recent professional/council examinations, conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), with an impressive pass rate of 72.7% on their first outing.

The NMCN is the regulatory body responsible for governing the nursing profession in Nigeria and ensuring the highest standards of nursing practice in our country.

Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) Visits Gregory University, Uturu for the First Accreditation Visit of the Radiography Department.

The Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) recently visited Gregory University, Uturu for the first accreditation visit of the Radiography Department.

The purpose of this visit was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the department’s compliance with RRBN’s regulatory protocols and guidelines, as well as to evaluate their clinical and practical processes.

According to the delegation, their objective was to ensure that the Radiography Department of Gregory University, Uturu meets the established standards and guidelines set by RRBN.

The board also aimed to identify any areas that require improvement and provide recommendations to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the department’s operations.

 

 

Gregory University Alumnus, Dr. Anyakora Chigoziem Ivy-Mary, Excels in National Postgraduate Medical College Examination.

In less than six months of her graduation, Dr. Anyakora Chigoziem Ivy-Mary, an alumnus of Gregory University, Uturu, has successfully passed the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria Primary Fellowship Examination with a specialization in Surgery.

Established to promote professional competence, training, and research in various fields of medicine, the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria is known for its rigorous academic standards and curriculum.

Through this achievement, Dr. Ivy-Mary has not only demonstrated exceptional skills and knowledge but has also solidified her place among the distinguished medical practitioners in Nigeria.

 

As one of the pioneer medical doctors of the university, she has exemplified the institution’s commitment and holistic approach to quality education, fostering an environment where students are encouraged to pursue excellence, intellectual growth, and realize their full potential across various disciplines.

Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, Celebrates Easter with Inmates at the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Okigwe.

In a heartwarming display of philanthropy and compassion, the founder and proprietor of Gregory University, Uturu,  Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, extended his benevolence and philanthropic gesture to the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Okigwe, as he celebrates the Easter season with the inmates.


A delegation from the University led by the P. A to the founder, Hon. Boniface Ikwuagwu, representing the founder and the Registrar of the University,  Mr. Maliki Vincent, embarked on the visit to the center, where they spent time engaging with the inmates in various activities aimed at uplifting their spirits and spreading joy and hope.
The visit encompassed a range of activities including praises, worship, dance, inspiring words, soulful music, and heartfelt prayers for all. The delegation was warmly received by the officer in charge, Mr. Ihezie Blaise Okechukwu, and the chaplain, Mr. Ureh B, both of whom expressed profound gratitude and delight to Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe and the university management for their thoughtful visit.

Following the enriching interactions, the university delegation generously presented the inmates with essential gift items, including food and drinks, three bags of rice alongside a significant cash donation of Two hundred thousand naira.

The inmates and officials of the center shared their feelings of love and excitement, emphasizing that despite the challenging economic situation, some compassionate individuals and organizations care about them.

“We are honored to have you visit us, and we pray that God will continue to bless the founder and proprietor,” they said.

As the event concluded with music and fanfare, many inmates expressed a newfound interest in learning the skill of disc jockeying (DJ) as they danced to the melodious music provided by the University.
