Gregory University holds ” Life After the University ” workshop to equip scholars for the real world.

Scholars of Gregory University Uturu were taken through some road maps on how to succeed after school during a high-impact workshop captioned “LIFE After the University: What Next?”

The event, organized by the College of Social and Management Sciences (CSMS) brought together scholars from first to final years to give them practical insights into relevant skills they can use to fill the gap that exists between academic life and life after the campus.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Regina Ogali, represented by Dr. Tom Okpuisi, presented the first Keynote Address. She emphasized the need for scholars to develop relevant strategies for survival, understand the realities of our society, and the challenges and opportunities that acquiring diversified skills could bring them. She made the scholars understand that certificates are meant for interviews, but one’s skills get the job, and retain you therein.

Seasoned Experts who presented papers that challenged the mental, practical and professional abilities of the scholars to succeed after here, included:

Dr. Nworgu Okey-Theodore of the Department of Sociology who spoke on the topic – Communication: Purpose and Adaptability. He reiterated the importance of career planning, acquisition of employable skills, and the importance of continuous learning. He warned that unhealthy online presence is an exercise in frivolities; because one’s mindset must explore the society to move further in life.

The Head of Department of English and Literary Studies, Dr. Benjamin Odoemela, made the scholars appreciate the central place that adaptability, quality leadership skills, and resilience occupies in their future life. He stated that in today’s world, academic qualifications alone cannot make one realize his full dreams and potentials.

The Dean, College of Humanities, Prof Leo Ebeogu, through Dr. Samson Nzeribe, made it clear that having dreams alone is insufficient for a decent living in today’s difficult world; but working hard to achieve those dreams matters most. He, therefore, admonished the scholars to realize immediately that life after the university is not like our paternal homes and the classrooms. “It is only through serious self-examination that the gap between school and the life after the campus is bridged”, he stated.

Dr. Nzeribe, after the event, said that Gregory University Uturu remains committed to producing career-ready and skilled scholars through this type of workshops in order to increase the marketability and survival ratings of GUU’s graduates.

The event also provided an opportunity for the best Graduating Student for 2023/2024 Set to present a recorded motivational talk to for his junior colleagues in the university.

DIRECTORATE OF AFRICAN TRADITIONAL SCIENCE AND MEDICINE INNOVATION CENTRE OPENS IN GREGORY UNIVERSITY

DIRECTORATE OF AFRICAN TRADITIONAL SCIENCE AND MEDICINE INNOVATION CENTRE OPENS IN GREGORY UNIVERSITY – VC Applauds the Vision of the African Model of Health Management Systems.

On Thursday, the 21st May, 2026 the Management Staff, Students and people from diverse life orientations converged in the Main Auditorium of Gregory University Uturu for the *Formal Opening of The Directorate of African Science and Medicine Innovation Centre.*

During the event, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Cele U. Njoku, applauded the initiative, and reiterated the importance of sustaining the rich African health Care System through an articulate process of combining natural herbs with other abundant natural substances in Africa. The Vice Chancellor also encouraged the audience to see this as a great opportunity to benefit from the innovative strategies and practices that are akin to Gregory University Uturu – where knowledge flows like dew.

African Traditional Science Experts such as Dr. Dan Akpati, Ozor Laz Ilediagu, Chief Priest of the Shrine/Oracle of St. Thomas Groove, Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State; and the Big Dibia Bonny Akputi Offiah, delivered scintillating lectures on the Science and Practice of Rejuvenation and Wellness; African Culture and Justice System; Drug Usage, Abuse and Traditional Psychiatry; as well as the Mysteries and Communication patterns surrounding the Igba-Afa and Divination practices in Igbo land.

In his lecture, Dr. Akpati, a Numerologist, gave insight into the linkage between individual names and progress in Igbo days of Eke, Orie, Afor, Nkwo; and that on the basis of such names and dates, every child has the opportunity to survive, relate with nature and grow in the African land. He made it clear that our food habits, poor exercises and neglect of natural leaves and their potency causes more problems for humans than we can imagine. He concluded that in Africa, there are certain leaves we must pluck at appropriate times, and with permission, otherwise they will not give their efficacy. This happens because “Nature” abhors disrespect and disorder.

Ozor Ilediagu, Chief Priest of the Oracle/Shrine of St. Thomas Groove, Oghe, Enugu State emphasized the divine truth and impartiality embedded in the African Justice System – especially in the settlement of land disputes, infidelity and matrimonial problems, stealing, criminality, and false oath-taking.

After the formal opening, guests were given the opportunity to understand the processes of bone massaging, treatment of diverse ailments by using the traditional herbs and creams that were on display.

Guests at the occasion included Prof. Uwaoma Kalu Uche, DVC (Admin), Prof. Regina E. Ogali DVC (Acad), Prof. Princewill U Uwallah, Director of Transport and Logistics, Prof. Nwamuo, Dean of Postgraduate School, GUU, all of Gregory University Uturu; Hon. GREGORY UNIVERSITY UTURU: AN EMERGING HUB OF MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP IN THE SCIENCES

  1. GREGORY UNIVERSITY UTURU: AN EMERGING HUB OF MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP IN THE SCIENCES

Opinion by Sleek Ogwo

Gregory University Uturu (GUU) is fast becoming a destination of choice for medical and health sciences education in Abia State and Nigeria’s South East. With a growing track record of producing globally qualified healthcare professionals, the university is solidifying its reputation as an emerging medical hub.

Now in its 14th year, GUU has inducted multiple cohorts of health professionals across medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, medical laboratory science, radiography, and public health. Recent ceremonies alone saw the induction of 31 Doctors of Pharmacy, 35 medical doctors, 16 medical laboratory scientists, and 39 nurses, all between March and April 2026. Since its first medical induction in December 2023, the university has graduated and inducted 209 doctors in three years, with excellent testimonies attesting to their professional impact. In total, GUU has produced 351 medical professionals since it commenced training in Medicine and Allied Health programmes in 2016.

GUU’s rise is anchored on experienced faculty and sustained investment in infrastructure. The College of Medicine and Health Sciences runs programmes fully accredited by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), and Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).

The university’s Primary Medical Qualification (PMQ) now meets the criteria set by the United Kingdom’s General Medical Council for an acceptable overseas qualification. This means GUU medical graduates can apply to sit the PLAB test and for GMC registration without individual qualification assessment. GUU graduates are also eligible to sit the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) following earlier recognition by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Further strengthening its profile, GUU’s College of Medicine and Health Sciences is now a registered member of the Association of Medical Schools in Africa (AMSA), following evaluation of its curriculum and accreditation status.

A 1,000-bed Teaching Hospital complex is nearing completion. The foundation was laid by former President Goodluck Jonathan at Ezinnachi, and the facility is designed to expand clinical training and research capacity for students and faculty.
