THE SOCIETY OF NIGERIAN BROADCASTERS INDUCTS NEW MEMBERS: The Mic is a Mandate – Gov. Alex Otti.
It was a wonderful privilege to be at the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters Conference and Induction of new members yesterday, 25th June, 2026.
Inside the main Hall of the Ministry of Women Development Affairs, Umuahia; the Governor of Abia State, HE Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, encouraged Broadcasters to be the custodians of truth, accuracy, educators, and cultural ambassadors in the era of AI; urging SNB through his Deputy, HE Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, to create positive impacts based on good ethics because beyond signals are real humans, he emphasized.

The Guest Speaker, Prof. Innocent Pascal Ihechu, Dean, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Abia State University Uturu, delivering on the topic ” Broadcasting Beyond the Signal: Community Impact in the Digital Era” maintained that the true message of broadcasting is not measured by money or influence but in capturing the truth, ensuring social cohesion and serving as ambassadors who help to shape responsible societies. Prof. Ihechu hinted that broadcasting should be based on context, verification and effectiveness; not on what technology allows us to do but what we do with social media and technology.
The Abia State Chapter Chairman of SNB, Mrs. Chinezerem Agbakuru, called for sincerity and objectivity in broadcasting, maintaining that broadcasting is a channel for the practitioners to verify news content that can unite the society.

In her goodwill message the Vice Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu, Prof C. Njoku, through the PRO of the school, Mr. Emmanuel Ekomanna, congratulated the leadership of SNB, reminded new Inductees that they should know that voices not previously recognized can now tell their own stories through the digital fora and technology. Hence Broadcasters must re-assess their strategies to ensure accuracy and grassroots coverage.
