Gregory University Uturu, has held its first physiotherapy induction and oath-taking ceremony, celebrating the pioneer graduates of Physiotherapy department.
The event took place at the Izima Council Chambers of Gregory University Uturu on Tuesday, 29th July 2025.
Administering the oath, the Registrar/CEO of the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTBN), Professor Ahmed Rufai, congratulated the inductees and applauded the university for its vision and commitment to bridging the knowledge and skills gap in the field of physiotherapy. He commended the institution for establishing and fully equipping the department, which will continue to produce outstanding physiotherapists for the nation and beyond.
He further encouraged the inductees to embrace a broader perspective focusing on problem-solving, leadership, health financing, and, most importantly, specialization within the profession.
In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Cele Njoku represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Regina Ogali urged the inductees to go beyond mere practice and strive to become professionals who positively influence the lives of their patients. She emphasized that their work should serve as a testament to their training and impact on the wider society.
She also expressed appreciation to MRTBN for approving and certifying the inductees, stating that the endorsement confirms the graduates have been found fit and worthy, having undergone rigorous professional training during their undergraduate Programme here at Gregory University.
Delivering the induction lecture, titled “Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPT) and Beyond: Enhancing Clinical Autonomy in Physiotherapy Practice.” Associate Professor Chidiebele Ojukwu highlighted the importance of transitioning to the DPT programme in Nigeria as a strategic reform that could transform healthcare delivery across the country. She explained that the programme would open doors to clinical excellence, autonomy, and leadership.
A’Prof. Ojukwu who encouraged the inductees to aspire to the highest ranks in the profession, also outlined additional benefits of the DPT, to include; alignment with global standards, improved access to both primary and specialized care, and the strengthening of multidisciplinary healthcare teams among others.
The pioneer inductees expressed excitement and appreciation to the university, their lecturers and their parents/ guardians for their support and guidance throughout their years of study.
