It was a proud moment for Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), as its third Medical Induction Ceremony held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, officially inducting 83 new medical doctors into the profession.
Administering the Hippocratic Oath to the inductees, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. Fatima Kyari represented by Dr. Tijani A. Mandaka commended the university’s management for maintaining the standards required to train skilled doctors. She encouraged the new doctors to approach their profession with integrity, empathy, and a deep sense of responsibility.
Speaking at the ceremony, the university’s Chancellor, Okechukwu Gregory Ibe (Jnr), congratulated the inductees and urged them to pursue continuous learning and always strive for excellence, noting that greatness lies ahead for them.
In her address, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Cele Njoku, emphasized the need for the inductees to become excellent healthcare professionals who are not only knowledgeable but also empathetic. She encouraged them to embrace the responsibility of advancing healthcare with humanity and dedication. Furthermore, she urged them to uphold high standards of professionalism and make meaningful contributions to their communities and society at large.
The Provost of the College of Medicine, Professor S.A.U. Offiah, reminded the inductees that the world needs the skills they have acquired from this prestigious institution. He highlighted the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and a commitment to lifelong learning in their journey ahead.
Earlier in the event, the Founder and Proprietor of Gregory University, Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, in an address presented on his behalf by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Uwaoma Uche, stated that the establishment of Gregory University Uturu was driven by his vision for massive human empowerment, particularly in the field of medicine.
He expressed his satisfaction at seeing this vision come to fruition, adding, “Together, let us continue to empower humanity through quality education and healthcare.”
Dr. Chidera Ugoh, the overall best graduating scholar of the Medicine and Surgery Class of 2023, expressed her excitement and heartfelt gratitude on behalf of her classmates. She thanked the management of GUU, her lecturers, mentors, her parents and guardians for their unwavering support.
