
Jubilation filled the air as Dr. Chidera Celine Ugoh, the overall best graduating medical scholar, Class of 2023, Gregory University Uturu, was awarded a cash prize of two million naira.
The announcement was made by the Chancellor, Mr. Gregory Okechukwu Ibe (jnr), on behalf of his family, during the university’s 3rd medical induction ceremony on June 4, 2025.

Dr. Ugoh, who also received multiple awards and cash prize from various donors, emerged as the best in Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, and Community Medicine.
Dr. Frances Emereole, the second-best graduating scholar, was recognized as the overall best in Anatomy, Human Physiology, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology, and Internal Medicine.
Other award recipients include: Dr. Freeman Josephine Ayibaditon; Best in Human Physiology, Dr. Amadi Emmanuel Iheanyichukwu; Best in Anatomic Pathology, Dr. Olunwa Abiye Divine; Best in Haematology, Dr. Agulanna Chinonso Joy; Best in Pharmacology, Dr. Eke Chukwuemeka Richard; Best in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Dr. Tonfawei Moses Philip received the Award of Excellence as Class Representative.
The third induction ceremony had a total of 83 new doctors inducted, comprising 52 females and 31 males.

Currently, Gregory University Uturu has produced 154 medical doctors across its first three induction ceremonies. A good number of the pioneer set are currently undergoing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) after successfully completing their housemanship and transitioning from House Officers to Medical Officers.
