Gregory University Uturu Holds 9th Convocation Ceremony

Gregory University Uturu, Abia State, held its 9th Convocation Ceremony on 14th December, 2024 to mark the successful culmination of a journey of hard work, commitment, discipline, and dedication for the Class of 2024.

An influx of distinguished personalities converged on the Goodluck Jonathan Auditorium, of the University to witness the occasion, which featured the awarding of Bachelors and other higher degrees to the excited graduands.

Addressing the gathering, the Chancellor, Gregory University Uturu, Okechukwu Gregory Ibe, encouraged all the graduands to deploy the knowledge they have acquired towards the development of the larger society, pointing out that the university is moving into its 13th year historically.


He noted with delight that the institution’s first set of law students have been called to Bar, while the pioneer and second sets of doctors have been inducted into the medical profession. He appreciated parents for entrusting their children’s education to the university and the staff for their diligence.

In her address, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. C. U. Njoku, stated that Gregory University has continued to thrive in research and innovation, with all its programmes fully accredited. She announced a new partnership with Sacred Heart University, USA, and continued collaboration with the Friendship University of Russia.

The Pro-Chancellor, Professor Augustine Uwakwe, charged the graduates to deploy the knowledge they have gained to continue building a nation full of opportunities for future generations.


The overall best graduand, Amo Adutomvie Austine, with a CGPA of 4.81, while giving his valedictory speech, thanked the university for giving them quality educational experience, promising to make the best of what they have learnt. He urged other students to remain dedicated to their studies to enable them sail through their academic journey.

The graduands expressed their excitement for completing their years of study and being equipped with relevant entrepreneurial and soft skills..

The ceremony also featured the investiture of Professor Emeritus on Prof. Evaristus Anyaehie, Director of the Institute of Foreign Languages, the conferring of Honorary Doctorate Causa awards on the former minister of power, Prof. Barth Nnaji and Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, who delivered the Convocation Lecture.

Furthermore, cash prizes were presented to all First-Class graduates, with the overall best graduand, Awo Adutomvie Austine, receiving the Chancellor’s Prize of One Million Naira, Prof. Mike Ozekhome’s cash prize, and other cash prizes.

Prof Barth Nnaji, Prof Ozekhome and Igwe Orji Nwafor Orizu also announced yearly endowment funds for outstanding students of the university.
