THE IGBO RENAISSANCE CENTRE: HUB OF IGBO DEVELOPMENT
When in 2016 the vision of gathering the crème la crème of Igbo elites and intelligentsia under one umbrella was conceived and birthed the patriotic Igbo son that wears the traditional toga and title of Erim (the Umbilical cord of unity), Prof Gregory Ibe, the resulting event turned out to be a watershed experience that would subsequently yield amazing dividends.
Subsequently it was the birth of World Igbo Summit in 2016 that gave Ndigbo a common apolitical non-partisan platform to congregate and initiate the process of developing a 50-year vision plan for the race. Indeed it was a well-attended event that witnessed strategic participation revered and highly distinguished Igbo patriots from various backgrounds. Since that resounding commencement in 2016, subsequent editions of the now annual gathering of Ndigbo have been held successfully at its permanent venue, the Igbo Renaissance Centre of Gregory University Uturu, with so many endorsing testimonies.
The last edition was particularly unique as it featured thought provoking discussions select group of Igbo intelligentsia on the theme Igwebuike, with supportive goodwill messages from neighboring groups and other Nigerian ethnic nationalists.
It is therefore against the backdrop of current socio-political realities of Ndigbo within the larger context of the Nigerian nation, that organizers of the annual summit have chosen to use the platform of this years edition to aggregate and harmonize the position of Ndigbo on the crucial subject national leadership under the theme Enduring Future For Ndigbo: Expectation and Challenges. A
usual it promises to be a loaded summit that will feature revealing presentations eminent Igbo leaders from all works of life. A recent visit to Igbo Renaissance Centre showed different levels of preparations for the event, which has been scheduled to hold from 18th to 20th December 2020.
Therefore, as the Igbo nation continues to march towards destiny fulfillment, it is envisaged that the Igbo Renaissance Centre will through her flagship programme, World Igbo Summit, work to sustain the crucial role of turning the wheel of development positively for the general good of Ndigbo as a people.
