PROF UWAKWE COMMISSIONS GREGORY TELEVISION STATION

It was jubilation amongst management, staff and scholars of Gregory University Uturu, as the institution’s television studio was commissioned and declared open for use the Vice Chancellor Professor Augustine Uwakwe.
The television Station was built the Founder/Chancellor Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe to enhance the study of Mass Communication, Theatre and Media Studies in the College of Humanities as well as allow those within and outside the opportunity to showcase their talents and findings.
According to the Vice Chancellor Professor Uwakwe, “the television Station will help bridge the gap between classroom studies and practice, in line with our policy of impacting at least a skill outside our scholar’s course of study positioning them to meet the challenges mostly found in the work space.” he said.

During the event, Professor Uwakwe, thanked the Chancellor Professor Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe, whom he described as an entrepreneur of the highest order and lover of practical education for his willingness to effect new changes in the University, adding that the station will be used to promote the various programs run in the university. “as scholars make use of this television station, they prepare themselves for future challenges in their various fields of study. Staff and lecturers are not left out, if any of you have a program idea that will promote learning and research please, the station is there to help you actualise your dreams”. He said.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Registrar of the University, Rev Sleek Ogbonnaya Ogwo, said that the Chancellor is ever willing to bring change in all the colleges, promote education, inculcate values and practices suitable for learning in the 21st century education where technology has formed the major part of our daily activities.“Gregory television has a channel in Star Times, our job is to provide content. Though we do all round programs and news, but we lay more emphasis on education, this means that you can bring to the television your findings that would help humanity, which was one of the reason the chancellor set up the station”.
The Acting Public Relation Officer of the University, Prince Obioma Oburuoga, who conducted management, staff and students round the facilities, said that the television station has all it takes to produce quality programs. “We have two studios, one for programs / news and the second one for life audience interactive programs. We welcome everyone, within the university and outside, who wishes to use our facilities to produce their music, drama etc.”he stressed.

It can be recalled that Gregory University Uturu already has an FM station, Gregory 90.9fm. The scholars also make use of the radio studio to practice what they are taught in the classroom with competent and capable technologist on ground to mentor them in addition to a stand DJ sound studio to enhance the radio broadcasting and programs.
