He was a renowned and distinguished educationist and a pious and learned man of God who had the single opportunity of being made the Doctor of the Catholic Church. Pope St. Gregory I worked hard to alleviate the suffering of the people. He employed writings and other actions, including education of his people, to protect them against the lawlessness of civil power. It is the life, hard work, dedication, commitment, and achievements of Pope St. Gregory I that have inspired the Proprietor to name the university after him.
